Remembering HAPPA when making your will is one of the most generous and long lasting acts you will ever perform

Without legacies, we could not continue our vital work and abused, neglected and abandoned equines would no longer have the opportunity to experience a kind word, careful and thoughtful handling, relief from hunger and thirst and expert veterinary care, or feel the kind touch of someone who cares.

Legacy income is vitally important to HAPPA as it provides almost 70% of the funds we require to carry out our equine welfare work and we are truly grateful to everyone who chooses to remember the positive difference we make to suffering animals, at the time of writing their will.

EVEN A FEW POUNDS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

ALL legacy income is important to us. Even if your personal circumstances allow you to leave just a few pounds, you will help to save lives and offer a worthwhile future to abused and neglected horses, ponies and donkeys

WHY MAKING A WILL IS SO IMPORTANT

Making a will is an important thing to do and it’s something that will guarantee you peace of mind in knowing that you have decided what will happen to your property and possessions after death.

Many people do not make a will, assuming that everything they own will automatically go to their partner and/or children. This is not always the case and neglecting to make a will can often have dire consequences.

If you die without making a will then you lose the choice in how your assets are divided and who benefits. This could lead to expensive complications and distress for those you leave behind.

A will is a positive way of making sure that the people and good causes you care about are supported when you are gone and is the only way to make sure that your wishes are carried out after your death.

If you don’t have a family, you may choose to share your estate between close friends, relatives and charities like HAPPA. If you have no family and die without making a will then everything you have goes to the Crown. Any legacy you choose to leave to HAPPA is exempt from inheritance tax ensuring that every penny will help save lives.

Should you choose to remember HAPPA in your will you might find the following wording suggestions useful

HOW HAPPA WILL REMEMBER YOUR KINDNESS

For all legacies up to £5,000, we will engrave a plaque and place this on our wall of remembrance at the Rescue Centre nearest to where you lived. For legacies larger than £5,000, we will plant a tree in your memory in one of our planned legacy woods as a lasting reminder of your important contribution to equine welfare.

WALTER LESLIE BARTLEY LEGACY

HAPPA officially opened a new stable block at their Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre at Shores Hey Farm, Briercliffe, Nr Burnley on Monday 8th May at 11.30am. Invited guests joined with staff and Board members at a short reception to mark the event which was officially opened by Mrs Irene Jameson, Honorary Vice-President of the organisation.

This new stable block, which provided sixteen additional stables, was built thanks to the generosity of the late Mr Walter Leslie Bartley whose legacy paid for this welcome addition to existing facilities. The new building was erected at a cost of almost £77,000 and the organisation is delighted that this legacy of love has been put to such good use.

MISS YVONNE GREGORY LEGACY

Miss Gregory supported HAPPA’s work for many years prior to her death in 2006. Her final legacy is being used for improvements to facilities at our Gregory Farm Rescue Centre.
