2017 is a very special year for local charity HAPPA (Horses and Ponies Protection Association) as they are celebrating their 80th year of making life a lot brighter for neglected, abused and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys.
To mark this special occasion, we have chosen to name a new resident and rescue horse ‘Oak’ after the traditional anniversary gift to mark an 80 year milestone.
The Charity, formed in 1937 by Mona Huskie, strives to improve and promote equine welfare through Rescue, Rehabilitation, Rehoming and Education and like the great oak, has proved to be robust, reliable and at times mighty to ensure the very best in equine welfare, whatever the decade.
Oak, a beautiful black 12.2hh gelding, arrived at HAPPA’s Shores Hey Farm, Briercliffe towards the end of 2016 after an investigation and intervention by another welfare agency.
He has now completed his period in the Isolation and Assessment Unit and is currently enjoying his time getting to know the other 56 residents currently being cared for at the Centre.
Oak, who is three years old is really making his mark on the public and staff with his adorable ways, which include giving love to everyone he meets.
Laura Brown, Equine Development Officer explains “Oak is such a kind and loving pony that I knew instantly that he would be a big hit with staff and supporters. I can think of no better pony to launch HAPPA’s eightieth year celebrations than Oak and we have recently added him to the Second Chance Sponsorship Scheme in order for the public to support his rehabilitation and schooling, until he is placed in a Forever Home.”
If you would like to sponsor Oak and support HAPPA during this very special year then we encourage you to sign up NOW and take advantage of a very special anniversary offer.
To celebrate HAPPA’s 80th year, the first 25 sponsorships of HAPPA Oak are on offer for just £19.37, yes the same numbers as our opening year, instead of our usual price of £48.This offer will include the welcome pack and all associated benefits. Visitwww.happa.org.uk for additional information about the charity and the Second Chance Sponsorship Scheme.
