Elsa was signed over into HAPPA’s care with six other Arabs, when their owner was no longer able to care for them. On arrival to our Isolation Unit Elsa was slightly over-weight, needed some remedial trimming, but was overall in good health.

Since arriving at the centre Elsa has had her front feet x-rayed to help with the remedial trimming, but also showed that she has previously suffered from laminitis, causing slight rotation and remodelling of the pedal bone tip.

Fortunately, after some work x-rays have shown a vast improvement and she is sound, however, she is unsuitable for ridden work.

Elsa has also been put on a diet and has received some dental work. She has also spent time getting used to being bathed, handled daily, having her feet trimmed, etc. Although still nervous with the Vet and Farrier she is good with a capable handler holding her.

Elsa can be highly strung and stubborn at times, but has a lovely, sweet side that comes out more when she forms a bond with someone. She is happy being turned out in a mixed herd, but requires restricted grazing.

Elsa is a good doer, prone to laminitis and will need a home experienced with good weight management to avoid her having another laminitis attack.

She also currently requires dental care every six months. A home experienced with Arabs or Arab types would also be preferred. Elsa is registered with the Arab Horse Society and would be able to be shown in-hand.

Elsa is up to date with all vaccinations, farrier, etc.
