HAPPA Bertie

16.3hh Chestnut Warmblood Gelding Born 2008 one of HAPPA’s worse rescue cases ever; came in as a result of a complaint on 18/12/12 along with his late mother HAPPA Kiwi. Bertie was then only an eight month old colt who had been savaged by a dog. His wounds had gone untreated and he had developed septicaemia. His mother was severely undernourished with a body condition score of 1.
Bertie was unable to stand and had to be supported in slings; he was close to death and very nearly didn’t make it. His owner was successfully prosecuted and received a 10 year ban from keeping equines. Bertie made a full recovery and has gone on to achieve under saddle and continues to be a delight. His mother Kiwi also made a good recovery and enjoyed a happy retirement at HAPPA.
