Sometimes circumstances change and making the decision to part with a horse can be incredibly difficult. HAPPA’s Horse Relinquishment Scheme is here to provide a safe and compassionate option for owners who can no longer care for their equine and want to ensure they have a secure future. The scheme allows owners to apply for a place within HAPPA’s rehabilitation programme, where horses and ponies can receive the care, support and assessment they need.
Applications are carefully reviewed using the information provided about both the owner and the horse. As stable spaces are limited and subject to availability within our isolation facilities, submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance.
To help support the costs associated with the Horse Relinquishment Scheme, a suggested minimum donation of £500 is requested to secure a place. Owners who are unable to provide the full amount can indicate the contribution they are able to make as part of their application.

Please note that all horses must have a valid registered passport, with ownership details recorded in the applicant’s name. Owners are responsible for transporting their horse to the HAPPA Centre, although transport may be arranged by HAPPA for an additional charge.
If your horse is vulnerable, at risk of becoming a welfare concern, or you are facing circumstances beyond your control, our Welfare Team may be able to offer support and guidance.
Once your application has been submitted, a member of the team will acknowledge receipt within 48 hours and advise you of the next steps. All information provided is treated confidentially and used solely to assess the most appropriate care and placement for your horse.
