Maureen has always been an ardent supporter of animal charities. With her deep love for animals, it was only natural for her to offer a loving home to a rescue pony. Her journey with HAPPA has been marked by love, dedication, and memorable moments. This case study explores Maureen’s experiences rehoming two special ponies, Winnie and Midnight, through HAPPA.
The Beginning of a Beautiful Relationship
‘’My connection with HAPPA began seven years ago when I welcomed HAPPA Babycham into my life. Thanks to Liz, my primary contact at HAPPA, my commitment and care were recognised when I was honoured with the Borrower of the Year award. The bond I shared with Babycham was profound, and her loss was deeply felt.
Welcoming Winnie
Following Babycham Liz introduced me to HAPPA Winnie and her lifetime companion HAPPA Honey. I was delighted to offer a home to both of them so they would not have to be separated. Sadly, Honey passed away a few months later and Winnie known for her quiet nature faced a significant loss. I was there for her on that heartbreaking day offering comfort and understanding and being retired I was able to spend ample time with her ensuring she was never alone. I was so touched by her bravery in the days that followed.
Watching Winnie’s transformation from a timid pony to a confident happy one has been incredibly rewarding. Although her gentle nature remains she has become quite a character bringing joy to my life. Winnie eagerly greets me each morning, neighs at hay time and enjoys cuddles and walks.
The Arrival of Midnight
Following the sudden loss of HAPPA Honey, my Care Officer Liz responded to my urgent request for a suitable companion for Winnie by introducing HAPPA Midnight five days later. Midnight, with her kind nature, was the perfect match for Winnie. It seemed she instinctively knew we needed her.
Over the past year, Midnight has formed a close bond with both Winnie and me. Her quirky ways and sweet nature have brought laughter and joy to my life. I enjoy the challenge of training Midnight using natural psychology techniques, reflecting my passion for understanding and connecting with my ponies.
One of my most memorable moments with Midnight occurred one quiet evening in the stable. As we stood together, Midnight gently placed her head on my arm, creating a special and peaceful moment. Watching Winnie and Midnight share hay and play together in the arena brings me enormous joy, making all the health challenges worthwhile.
The Support of HAPPA
Throughout my journey, I have found HAPPA to be a wonderful charity, deeply committed to the well-being of equines. The sanctuary provides a beautiful and caring environment for rescued horses and ponies. I appreciate the comprehensive Care Book and the support offered through routine visits. Liz, in particular, has been an incredible support, going the extra mile to ensure the well-being of the ponies and their new owners.
I wholeheartedly recommend HAPPA to anyone looking to adopt a horse, pony, or occasionally a donkey. The peace of mind that comes from knowing HAPPA prioritises finding the best, most suitable match for both the animal and the adopter is invaluable.’’
Maureen’s journey with Winnie and Midnight showcases the profound impact of rehoming rescue ponies through HAPPA. Her story is a testament to the love, care, and joy that come from providing a second chance to these wonderful animals. Through the support of HAPPA and the dedication of individuals like Maureen, many equines find the loving homes they deserve.
