A hands-on pony experience for children & teens (ages 6–16)

Give your child the chance to step into the world of real pony care, not just watching, but doing. At HAPPA’s Own A Pony Day, young people work alongside our friendly horsey experts, learning what it truly takes to care for a pony through practical, confidence-building tasks.

What your child will do on the day

Your child will take part in the kinds of everyday jobs that keep ponies happy, healthy and comfortable – with plenty of support along the way.

Activities include:

  • Grooming and caring for their pony
  • Completing daily stable and yard tasks (the real essentials!)
  • Learning how to look after a pony safely and kindly
  • A chance to ride on a pony at the end of the day (subject to suitability)

Not Quite Ready for a Full Own a Pony Day?

Every child starts somewhere and for some, a full day can feel like a big step!

If your child is new to ponies, a little younger or feeling unsure in new environments, our Pony Taster Day offers a calm and confidence-building introduction. This shorter, 2 hour experience is designed to gently ease children into pony care at their own pace, with hands-on activities such as meeting the ponies, grooming and simple stable tasks, all delivered in a supportive and reassuring environment.

Parents are also very welcome to stay, helping children feel comfortable and confident throughout.

It’s the perfect first step before progressing onto an Own a Pony Day, helping your child feel relaxed, capable, and excited for a full day experience in the future.

Who it’s for

Own A Pony Day is suitable for ages 6-16, whether they’re pony-mad beginners or already confident around horses.

It’s especially brilliant for children who:

  • Love animals and want a full ‘owning their own pony’ experience
  • Learn best by doing (hands-on, practical and engaging)
  • Want a confidence boost and a day they’ll talk about for weeks

What to bring and wear

To keep everyone safe and comfortable, please come prepared:

  • A packed lunch and drink
  • Weather appropriate layers (we’re outdoors for lots of the day)

Footwear requirement (important):
Children must wear wellies or riding boots to take part in activities.

Birthday party guests enjoy the full Own A Pony Day experience, with the added excitement of celebrating a special occasion alongside friends, ponies and our friendly equine team.

Own A Pony Day Birthday Parties take place on additional, dedicated dates, separate from our regular Own A Pony Day schedule.

  • Please give at least 4 days’ notice if you need to cancel.
  • If we can re-sell your place, you’ll receive a full refund. If we can’t, a refund won’t be given.
  • Bookings can be transferred to another date (if the conditions above are met); a £10 admin fee applies.
  • Name transfers are accepted free of charge (we’ll request a new consent form).

No, this day is designed to be supportive and educational, with guidance from our team.

There may be an opportunity to ride on a pony at the end of the day, depending on suitability, conditions and timing.

Wellies or riding boots are required to participate.
