Ruby and Ruben, two magnificent horses, arrived at HAPPA Shores Hey Farm from another rescue organisation after being saved from a dire welfare situation. Severely malnourished and burdened with heavy worm infestations, they were part of a group of horses rescued from an owner who failed to provide even the most basic care. The owner faced prosecution and was found guilty of neglect, including not implementing a parasite control plan, neglecting farriery care, and not seeking necessary veterinary attention.
Ruby, a stunning 10-year-old Chestnut Mare, may have been used as a broodmare in the past. She is currently undergoing assessments to determine her suitability for ridden work. Ruben, our very own Black Beauty, is also 10 years old and is being evaluated to determine his future. Both horses are on bespoke rehabilitation programs, receiving regular physio visits to help them develop the correct muscle tone in preparation for riding.
Our Equine Manager, Rachael Wallace, is thrilled about their future. She looks forward to working closely with Ruby and Ruben, ensuring they get the second chance they deserve to thrive and enjoy a better life.
At HAPPA, we are committed to providing neglected and abused horses with the care and compassion they need to recover and flourish. Stories like those of Ruby and Ruben inspire us to continue our mission. Stay tuned for updates on their progress and their journey towards brighter futures. Your support makes it possible for these beautiful animals to heal and find happiness once again.
