Elise Pilkington Charitable Trust help HAPPA

Horses and Pony Protection Association (HAPPA) are delighted to announce support for a project at the Charity through funding from the Elise Pilkington Trust.

Seeking Funding

HAPPA were seeking funding to purchase and install a commercial washing machine for the washing of rugs and other equine equipment that belongs to the Charity for use with the equines who are housed at the Farm during the rehabilitation process.

The current facilities which service both the care of the equines at HAPPA and the Charity’s retail area was becoming a huge challenge; the processing of rug washing for commercial and domestic clients, washing donated rugs to be sold and then washing all the equipment and rugs required for the Charity’s equines.

The Charity developed the Shop in order to raise income, and this has been a huge success, however with this success came the logistical facts of a busy shop versus a very busy rescue and rehabilitation centre.

For HAPPA it was no longer practical, nor safe, to process all the types of washing it required with just one washing machine. Therefore, the Charity sought funding to purchase and install a secondary machine for sole use by the Equine Care Team to facilitate care for the equines at the Farm, to further reduce the risk of cross-contamination from sharing a washing machine and to allow the equine care not to be halted by sharing of facilities.

Head of Equine Operations, Amanda Berry, says “It has been a challenging year already for HAPPA and the purchase of a new washing machine for the equine care team was greatly needed, with so many other costs rising and the number of equines needing our help increasing we had to look outside of the organisation to help fund this essential piece of equipment. I am delighted that the Trustees of the Elise Pilkington Trust were able to support our application for funding and cannot wait to see the new washing machine installed, with 46 horses and ponies at the Farm, it will certainly be well used.”

History

The Elise Pilkington Trust was established in 1979 with two distinct beneficiaries in mind, to prevent cruelty to equines and relieve any suffering and stress to such animals, and to provide social services and help for the relief of the aged.
