HAPPA Welcomes Retraining of Racehorses (RoR)

April 19, 2018

HAPPA are delighted to announce their association with RoR and have welcomed several former racehorses through its doors, the latest of which is HAPPA Yeehaa.
RoR is British Horseracing’s official charity for the welfare of horses that have retired from racing and provides a safety net for “vulnerable” former racehorses.
Raising funds from within the Racing Industry for the retraining and rehoming of former racehorses, RoR promotes the adaptability and versatility of racehorses to other equestrian activities and provides information for owners and trainers both in the Racing and Equine Industries to assist with the rehoming and retraining of their former racehorses.
The ultimate goal is to maintain a balance between the number of horses leaving racing and the number of enthusiastic, suitable new homes.
Clearly not all racehorses go on to star in a different sphere, but RoR hopes that, on seeing what can be done, more riders will think about taking on a racehorse when they are looking for a new horse. This will help racehorse owners and trainers, equine charities, re-trainers and most importantly, the horses to find secure and knowledgeable new homes.
The British Horse Society (BHS) introduced an approval system for retraining centres, an initiative that endorses best practice and high standards of equine welfare. HAPPA formed part of a pilot scheme in collaboration with RoR and were one of the first re-homing centres to gain BHS Approval, giving members of the public more confidence when looking to take on a retired racehorse from HAPPA.
Meet HAPPA Yeehaa
Under starters orders, please welcome HAPPA’s stunning former racehorse HAPPA Yeehaa,
who was transferred to the charity in December 2017.
Yeehaa is a stunning horse with a quality head, he has more bone than your average thoroughbred which gives him such presence. He is very regal looking with a personality to match. He stands at 16.2hh and is bright bay in colour and was born in 2002.
Yeehaa is situated on the front yard at Shores Hey Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre and enjoys lots of attention from his admirers. He has an avid fan club and wears his image very well. He has had a successful career out of racing and can turn his hoof to almost any discipline. Having competed very successfully in dressage, showjumping and cross country; now in his teens he is looking to slow down a little.
Yeehaa is almost perfect he is good to do in all ways, he loves cuddles and is a firm favourite amongst the staff too. He is charming and delightful and is most definitely a winner in HAPPA’s eyes.
Yeehaa is available for Sponsorship and will be at the Centre for a good while as he has taken up the post of resident schoolmaster. He is extremely trustworthy and is so cool, calm and collected he is teaching the staff the ridden elements of BHS stages 1 & 2. Yeehaa will be available for re-homing later in the year. He is a fab horse and a very lucky someone will find perfection in this wonderful versatile all- rounder.
Watch out for Yeehaa as he will be out and about competing at local events, wearing the HAPPA colours. Hopefully we will be seeing him in the winner’s enclosure once again.
