HAPPA Toffee

Toffee’s rescue journey began under our Cross Agency Transfer Agreement, following a harrowing ordeal on a Welsh common where she lived among a feral herd, devoid of human interaction or care. Upon her arrival, Toffee bore the physical scars of neglect, with severe emaciation, lice infestation, and a heavy worm burden.

In a coordinated effort involving member charities from the National Equine Welfare Council, the group of ponies, many of whom were pregnant, were safely removed from the moor. Recognising the trauma they had endured, the mares were gently adjusted to their new surroundings in smaller herds, minimising stress and allowing for gradual desensitization.

Toffee, along with her companions Pepper and Bunny, arrived at Shores Hey Farm after spending several days in a holding yard. Despite initial concerns about her pregnancy status, Toffee’s examination revealed that she was not expecting at the time.

Toffee’s journey serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience of rescued horses and the transformative power of compassionate intervention. With each step of her recovery, Toffee embodies the hope and healing made possible through collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication to equine welfare.
