HAPPA Improves Accessibility at Shores Hey Farm

The HAPPA Team are thrilled to share exciting news – pathway improvements at the Charity’s Farm in Burnley, Lancashire are now complete.

Funding Support from LEF

Thanks to generous funding from the Lancashire Environmental Fund (LEF), we’ve upgraded walkways around the Farm to improve accessibility for everyone.

We’ve resurfaced the path from the main car park and the walkway around one of our stable blocks with smooth tarmac. As a result, visitors with limited mobility, prams, or pushchairs will find it much easier to move around.

Who Made It Possible

The Lancashire Environmental Fund made this project a reality. LEF is a partnership between Suez Recycling and Recovery Ltd, Lancashire County Council, The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside, and Community Futures. Funding comes through donations via the Landfill Communities Fund and contributions from Lancashire County Council.

Why the Project Matters

Julie Pharaoh-Gan from HAPPA explained the importance of this development:

“We cannot thank LEF enough for backing our project and helping us move it forward. Since we first developed the site in 2015, HAPPA has come a long way. After a similar pathway upgrade in 2022, which gave visitors access to see our horses and ponies in the fields, we knew further improvements would be necessary.”

She continued, “With more people visiting the Farm each year, we recognised the need to make their experience smoother. We always look for ways to enhance visits, but we needed the funding to take that next step. Thankfully, our supporters rallied behind the project, which gave us the momentum to go ahead.”

Benefits for All Visitors

These improvements make every visit more enjoyable, whether you’re using a wheelchair, walking with a stick, or pushing a pram. More importantly, the upgrade allows HAPPA to stay focused on what matters most: rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses and ponies suffering from cruelty or neglect.

Julie added, “This project marks another important milestone in the ongoing development of Shores Hey Farm. We’re especially pleased to have worked once again with Monk of Colne to complete the work.”

Come and Visit!

So, why not visit Shores Hey Farm soon? Spend some time with our horses and ponies, and enjoy the comfort of the new accessible pathways while you’re here.
