This summer, we are thrilled to introduce a unique and captivating addition to Shores Hey Farm. We welcome Enzo, a magnificent sculptural masterpiece that doesn’t need feeding but will certainly nourish your imagination. Enzo will be visiting us from starting from 14th July.

Introducing Enzo

Enzo is a stunning 9ft tall rearing horse sculpture, meticulously handcrafted by the talented Sarah Mae Francis. Created from a variety of mechanical parts, car parts, and retired tools, Enzo represents the transformation of discarded junk into art. Sarah considers Enzo her favorite creation, a testament to her ingenuity and craftsmanship. This summer, visitors to Shores Hey Farm will have the opportunity to meet Enzo and interact with our real-life equine residents.

A Personal Touch

Sarah Mae Francis shares, “A little information about Enzo: the initials, in the close-up photograph of Enzo’s leg (RJD), are the initials of my Dad’s Uncle. He very kindly let me empty a lifetime’s collection of tools from his garage. This personal touch shows how these tools, once considered valuable, now deemed useless and scrap, can live on in my artwork, telling their story.”

Sarah continues, “I took an interest in welding at age 16, discovering and teaching myself how to work with metal. From that, I noticed that my dad, a mechanic, was throwing away a lot of car parts and unwanted tools, which seemed such a waste. I thought, ‘Why not get creative?’ and see what I could conjure up. Things just escalated from there. I want people to see and enjoy my work. HAPPA seemed the perfect place to send Enzo on holiday to showcase my work. Hopefully, Enzo will inspire fellow artists to recycle and reuse.”

Symbolism and Inspiration

HAPPA’s Chief Executive Officer, Sarah Arthur, explains further, “I was introduced to Sarah’s work when dropping off my car for a service at her father’s garage. The absolute talent and artistic creativity shown in Enzo is truly phenomenal. The symbolism of Enzo to the Charity is that, just as the horses we rescue are discarded like junk by cruel owners, we find them an important purpose, whether that be through education or by finding them a home as a companion or rideable equine. We applaud Sarah’s work and are sure she will have an extremely successful future as a creator of these beautiful life-sized sculptures.”

While HAPPA is home to many real horses, we are delighted to host Sarah and Enzo this summer. Enzo is a powerful showcase of how one person’s junk can become another person’s treasure. This remarkable piece of art is sure to leave a lasting impression on all who see it.
