Looking for things to do with the kids this summer in Burnley? Want to meet horses, have family fun outdoors and support a good cause while you’re at it? Then look no further than Shores Hey Farm, the home of HAPPA, for a summer packed with exciting activities, themed events and hands-on equine experiences.
From July through September, HAPPA’s summer calendar is bursting with family-friendly events that offer something for everyone. Whether you’re a little one meeting a pony for the first time or a grown-up looking for a relaxing evening out.
Best of all, every visit helps HAPPA continue its vital work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses and ponies in need.
What’s Happening This Summer at HAPPA
Wild West Trail
19th July – 31st August, 11am – 4pm
Our horses have gone wild on the ranch! Kids can grab their boots and chaps and follow this fun, interactive trail across the farm to help us keep the horses happy and healthy.
Pony Grooming Sessions
Tuesdays: 22nd & 29th July, 5th, 12th, 19th & 26th August, 11am – 3pm
A perfect hands-on experience for children aged 4+, with the chance to meet and groom a gentle HAPPA pony under expert supervision.
Own a Pony Day
23rd & 26th July, 6th, 20th & 23rd August, 10am – 3pm
Kids aged 6–16 can get a real taste of pony care. Feeding, grooming and bonding with our residents in this immersive day-long adventure.
Woof Shack
3rd August, 11am – 12:30pm
A social meet-up for four-legged friends and their humans. Bring your dog along for a friendly gathering with other pooches and owners.
Festival of the Horse
16th August, 11am – 4pm
Don’t miss Burnley’s first-ever Festival of the Horse! A thrilling day packed with equestrian demonstrations, expert talks and activities for the whole family.
Wild West Fun Day
30th August, 11am – 4pm
Shores Hey Farm turns into a Wild West frontier with themed games, live entertainment, competitions and fun-filled activities for all ages.
Family Silent Disco
30th August, 6pm – 9pm
Get your groove on at our summer send-off party! Choose from three music channels, pop on a headset and dance the night away, ideal for all generations.
Steak Night at The HAPPA Café
Friday 2nd August, from 6:30pm
An evening just for grown-ups! Enjoy a mouth-watering locally-sourced steak dinner with all the trimmings in our cosy Café. Bring Your Own Bottle and make it a night to remember.
More Than Just a Day Out
While you’re here, relax at the HAPPA Café, open daily from 9am to 3:30pm, serving up fresh meals, cakes, and Walling’s Ice Cream. Pop into the HAPPA Direct Shop too, with a lovely mix of gifts, toys and affordable equestrian gear (new and pre-loved), there’s something for everyone.
Dog-Friendly Days All Summer Long
We love your furry friends as much as you do! HAPPA is proud to be a dog-friendly venue, with shaded areas, water bowls and cooling mats throughout the farm, so your pup can enjoy the summer too.
