Every November HAPPA hold the Annual Awards Ceremony at Shores Hey Farm to celebrate those people who go above and beyond for HAPPA, and Equine Welfare in general. We look forward to welcoming all these deserved award nominees and announcing the winner.

Ken Cranage Award for Services to Equine Welfare

The Ken Cranage Memorial Trophy is to be presented annually to honour HAPPA’s late President who dedicated many years of service in the name of Equine Welfare.

This Trophy will be presented to an employee or volunteer from any recognised agency who has made an outstanding contribution to Equine Welfare.

The award nominees are:

Wendy Suddes

Wendy started Here4Horses and has accomplished amazing things in such a short period of time. It is no mean feat starting a charity in the current economic climate and her effort must be applauded. Here4Horses were ready, willing, and able to offer horses a second chance when they launched. The values of the charity align well with our own and we wish Wendy the best of luck for the future, keep on going and know that you are not alone.

Dr Suzanne Green BVM&S, BSc, MRCVS, MAE

For her outstanding veterinary work within the equine welfare sphere. Helping to gain prosecution.

Nick Johnson B.V.M.S., M.R.C.V.S

Has been HAPPA’s vet for many years, always putting the welfare of the horses first and going above and beyond to ensure their welfare. A man that is always ready with a smile, kind word and advice at a drop of a hat. From the HAPPA horses and ponies Nick has helped over the years I am sure they would like to say a huge THANK YOU! Stanley House Vets are honoured to have you on their team.

Mona Huskie Award

The Mona Huskie trophy, sponsored by HAPPA’s late President Ken Cranage, is awarded to a member of the public who rehomes an equine from any welfare charity, dedicating their lives to an equine from a troubled background.

Given in memory of HAPPA’s founder Miss Mona Huskie.

The award nominees are:

Andrew and Gwen Round

HAPPA Autumn & Shush

Andrew and Gwen have been long time Borrowers and Supporters of HAPPA having previous loaned an HAPPA pony, then taking two of our most timid ponies on. It’s not been an easy ride for Andrew and Gwen but with patience and commitment these two little ponies are blooming in their Forever Homes and its always a pleasure to see them and catch up on their progress.

Georgina White

HAPPA Toffee, Pumpkin, Pie, Dan and Mickey

People like this lady need recognising for the amazing contribution she has given to our horses and giving these ponies the life they always deserved not just for one but multiple.

Suzanne Hodgson

HAPPA Dusty Pink

Treats Dusty Pink like a princess and always at HAPPA competing in the dressage. Dusty Pink has grown from an ugly duckling into the beautiful dressage horse she is today! Her Borrower absolutely worships the ground she trots on. The bond between them is a joy to see, although Dusty does sulk when the clippers come out her Borrower leaves her to think about things and understands she needs space. Dusty even gets her rugs laundered in the HAPPA shop on a regular basis ensuring she looks her best at all times. We are sure she is the most spoilt horse in the UK if not the world. Thank you for giving Dusty the best home ever!

Cheryl Shaw

HAPPA Eclipse

For providing Eclipse with a fun-loving home, but for also showcasing what talented horses’ rescues can be.

She’s only had her since 2020 but achieved so much. Eclipse was a complicated mare, but they have both totally bonded. They have regular lessons and are winning so many dressage competitions. Eclipse loves being with Cheryl and her children love her too.

Sue Ainsworth

HAPPA Carys

Sue has had Carys since 2018. Carys is looked after second to none. She enjoys a lovely life hacking and being groomed and out in the field with her companion. Sue is a strong supporter of HAPPA and is a frequent visitor to Shores Hey Farm.

Mary Abrams

HAPPA Ben

Giving a loving Forever Home and showing that a severe rescue case can bring in the ribbons!

Victoria Brewis

HAPPA Bletchley

Victoria seized the opportunity to rehome Bletchley a very novice and inexperienced 5yr old. In the last five years I have seen these two develop a beautiful friendship with mutual respect for one another. They have taken on and overcome many challenges. In 2020 Bletchley was placed on a strict diet by the vet due to medical issues. Victoria researched and devised a diet plan and with great efficiency and executed it with outstanding results. Through dedication and hard work, she has produced a stunning competition pony. A lovely, safe hacking out partner and a constant source of comfort. Bletchley is truly part of Victoria’s family and is greatly loved by all. I am amazed at her dedication and commitment to Bletchley. Her early morning hacks and regular training sessions. Victoria goes above and beyond in every challenge, and we are very lucky to have her as a HAPPA family member.

Admiral Memorial Trophy

The Admiral Memorial Trophy is presented annually to Volunteers or Members of the Public who have made an outstanding contribution to HAPPA.

The trophy was donated to HAPPA by long term member Dr Joy Faulkner in memory of her own horse Admiral in 1978.

The award nominees are:

John Pilling

HAPPA Volunteer

For his dedication to HAPPA, no task is too big or small, I have seen him out in all weathers doing any task asked. He really deserves huge credit. Such a lovely man with a kind heart who without, the site wouldn’t look half as good as it does! For all the hard work he has put into maintenance across site, and always with a can-do smile on his face.

Wallace Landscapes Ltd

Keeping site looking good all year round. Wallace landscapes have been an important service provider for some time now. Their professionalism and customer service is always to the highest standards.

Andy goes above and beyond in volunteering for HAPPA on a regular basis, whether that be painting, history wall research, wreath making workshop preparations, gardening, assisting events such as Fun Day and Santa Saturdays, the list goes on.
