My story with Dusty Pink began unexpectedly when a friend asked if I was still considering getting another horse. Upon my affirmative reply, she urged me to come and see a particular horse. That simple invitation marked the start of an incredible journey.

Walking down the rows of stables at HAPPA, I spotted a pony’s head peeking out, and it was love at first sight. After losing my beloved horse to laminitis and suffering a severe riding accident that left me with a broken pelvis in four places, I needed a trustworthy steed for mounting and dismounting. As a long-time HAPPA supporter, I knew I could rely on them for honest answers to any questions I had.

The Match

HAPPA was equally keen to ensure that I was the right match for Dusty Pink. They asked many questions and arranged a ridden session in the indoor school to confirm that I would continue the excellent education they provide their horses. Once I was approved as Dusty Pink’s new mum, the adventure truly began.

Building a Bond

When Dusty first came home, I focused on bonding with her. I spent hours shadowing her while she grazed. One day, as I walked back to the gate, I heard the sound of hooves cantering after me. At that moment, I knew Dusty Pink was going to be my friend.

Despite my husband’s initial reaction that she was too small, I believed that good things come in small packages. At 5’2.5”, I felt Dusty was just right for me, and she has certainly proven that to be true.

Our Dressage Journey

Though I might be considered a senior, the competitor in me was still alive. This competitive spirit led us to embark on our dressage journey. I soon realised that Dusty Pink was not only clever but also had quite an attitude!

We have had several memorable moments, including winning in dressage at Croft Top and Craven Arena. However, the highlight must be winning the Intro and Preliminary Championships at the HAPPA Dressage League.

Continuing Success

Currently, we are competing at the Novice level and training at Elementary, enjoying every moment together. If you ever wonder whether you should give a horse a second chance, stop thinking and just do it. HAPPA will recommend, support, advise, and be with you all the way.

Dusty Pink has certainly enriched my life and our dressage journey has been more than I could ever wish for. Dusty Pink and I have built a bond that continues to grow stronger every day and thanks must go to HAPPA for all their dedication and support.
